Doesn’t it often feel like your man is the spoon in a yogurt cup? He’s pivotal for your relationship but eventually he’s bound to over. Some studies have shown men lose interest when they think there’s nothing more to offer (ie: when all that delicious yogurt is gone).
When it comes to marriage, men traditionally get on one knee to propose, but more guys are simply standing in opposition of long-term commitment. According to The Pew Research Center, there’s a steady decrease in marriages, and men are more likely than women to have never gotten hitched.
But while statistics show a national average of marriages on the decline, it turns out some men do want to get married, even more than women! They just want all the factors of life-long commitment to line up, and they definitely don’t want to be rushed. In the book The Real Reasons Men Commit by Joel D Block and Kimberly D. Neumann, the authors explain how men generally need to find the right time in their life to settle down. They commit when they are ready, not when they are forced. And when he’s finally ready to propose, these are the reasons why he will put a ring on it.
A Steady Sex Life
A man with an active sex life is like a dog with a bone. But sex is even better with a loving partner, providing intimacy, security, a life-long connection and that thing we call love. And guess what? You get more sex when you’re married. A study devised by the Kinsey Institute suggested 23 percent of single men can go up to a year without sex, while only 1 percent of married men have these dry spells. Married couples younger than 30 (the age most men marry) are also more satisfied with sex than singles younger than 30.
Unconditional Love
Back to that thing called love. It’s the primary reason why men get married. In fact, in a survey conducted by Pew Research, 93 percent of married people (both men and women) said love was the reason why they got married, and 84 percent of unmarried people want to marry because of love. Marriage is a life journey, and love is the foundation. In the immortal words of The Beatles: “All you need is love… love is all you need!”
A Growing Family
Men agree that marriage is a better way to raise a family than as a single person, and in a seemingly shocking twist according to polls: Men totally want to be fathers! Men, interestingly enough, eventually want to have kids in a marriage more often than women do, who have statistically shown more reluctance at the idea of children. A loving family is ideal with a committed partner, which provides the platform for stability. Children also ensures a man’s bloodline will be passed down from one generation to the next.
